My Phobia Of Darkness

Most young children have the phobia of darkness. They often fear that something catastrophic would happen to them late in the night alone in their room. In the darkness, we couldn’t see clearly, and as for a young child, those with a healthy imagination, this could be quite frightening. They also will have a sense, which could build something sinister will just, happen out of nowhere or arms reach waiting for its moment to strike. When I was a young child, a few years old girl, I had this phobia too. Hence, I always like to sleep with my parents when they are ready for sleep in their room. If they had not sleep yet, I will not sleep too. I always had this strange fear that ‘something’ or ‘someone’ under the bed, will came a hand from nowhere that will grab me. In addition, my mother used to leave some landing lights on for me to provide me calming relief from the darkness in the room. If it happens by accident, they could ask me questions continuously to make me elaborate on my fears. By doing this, they showed great concerns and it could provide me a calming relief from the darkness. In this way, parents can be of great use to their children. The fear lessened, as I grew older. As I grew older, the world to me become more logical and less fantastic, and then I will realize I am safe even if I'm alone in the darkness in my own room and my fears will slowly fade away. Not only the young children, some adults also suffer from this fear. I read some news that some young adults, particular those who suffer from nightmares or having traumatic memories from the past. Although gradual exposure to darkness can be helpful to Nyctophobics , the management of nightmares and bad memories is liable to require specialist’s help.
